Homemade Taco Seasoning

It’s Taco Tuesday, y’all!! Tacos are probably my husband’s favorite and most requested weeknight dinner, so I thought I’d share my super easy DIY Taco Seasoning blend. I actually use it for almost every Mexican-style dish I make, so it’s just worth it and cheaper (and healthier) to make my own. Here’s a small batch.

Homemade Taco Seasoningtaco funnel mixing

  • 1 tbsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • ΒΌ tsp Cayenne pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  1. Combine all spices in a small container with a lid. Stir or shake to combine.
  2. Store in an airtight container for future use.

How much salt I add just depends on my mood. Lately I’ve had to cut back on the salt to accommodate dinner guests, so 1/2 tsp for the whole batch is my “low sodium” variety. In my experience, more than 2 tsp is just asking for kidney stones. But do what you want. And absolutely go for a double or triple batch if you’re going to be using it often! This batch will usually cover 2-3 taco nights. I always start with 1 Tbsp of the seasoning blend per pound of ground beef and go from there. Add a can of tomato sauce and you’re ready to eat!

Don’t forget to use this on enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, and chicken mole!taco meat seasoning
